Young UK Surveying Stars Battle for ‘Young Surveyor of the Year’ Title

Eighty of the UK's most inspiring young surveyors will compete for the esteemed 'RICS Matrics UK Young Surveyor of the Year' title after being recognised as influential leaders in their sectors, having made the shortlist of this year's Young Surveyor of the Year Awards.

The annual awards celebrate the vast range of young talented surveyors, trainees and apprentices – aged 35 and under – who are role models in leading and managing exemplary built projects and initiatives. They also recognise the ambitious and astute future leaders of the surveying profession who have made a significant contribution to their workplace, including inspiring the next generation while achieving demonstrable career progression.

Advancing the industry

This year's shortlist is made up of a diverse mix of young surveyors from all over the UK and from firms of all sizes – including CBRE, Faithful+Gould, Orchestra Land, Rider Levett Bucknall, TowerEight and Wates Construction – all hoping to gain national recognition for their skills, expertise and steadfast drive to excel in their career.

Each shortlisted entrant will be considered for one of 10 category awards across surveying disciplines as well as the overall 'UK Young Surveyor of the Year' title. This is awarded to the category winner who has achieved a high level of success in their respective role and sector and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to inspire and support future talent and advance the industry and wider surveying profession.

Last year the 'UK Young Surveyor of the Year' title went to Laura Collins, an Associate Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Quantity Surveyor at Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) in London. She demonstrated extensive expertise in project managing complex global property projects and has progressed from apprentice at age 18 to the youngest person in RLB to be promoted to the role of Associate Director before the age of 30.

Commenting on the shortlist, head of the judging panel, Natasha Tyler of Powell Williams, and Chair of the RICS UK Matrics Board – a networking and support group for young surveyors – said: "I am delighted to see this year's shortlist includes a healthy mix of diverse talent who are going above and beyond to ensure their talent and expertise has a significant and positive impact on our communities and the wider property industry.
