3D Repo Wins First Place in Building Digital Innovation Awards

3D Repo has achieved a Premier Award from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). Celebrating achievement across the built environment, CIOB International Innovation and Research (I&R) Awards are open to submissions from academic researchers and industrial innovators alike. The Digital Innovation Award encompasses any exciting implementation of digital technologies, from Building Information Modelling (BIM) to mobile technology and e-commerce, within the sector, and was presented to 3D Repo for its cloud software solutions for collaborative BIM in the cloud.

Announcing the results, the CIOB judging panel said, “The entries to the CIOB I&R Awards continue to impress and surpass expectations, and it’s immensely encouraging to see both the high volume – more than 160 from 18 different countries – and the high quality of applications.”

The CIOB Awards recognise the contributions made to both industry practice and the academic knowledge base of innovators and researchers. The awards look to raise performance levels, encourage best practice and improve the quality of the built environment.

Speaking about 3D Repo, the judging panel said:  “This open data innovation is an example of an open source approach to improving best practise in data management and analysis. This innovation is particularly impressive for the way it uses open source software as a basis for improving the accessibility to, and utilisation of, data that has already been created. It allows greater interaction and better quality decision making for different parties, including engineers, clients and construction professionals, in any one project.”

“We are delighted to achieve this recognition from the CIOB and to join the illustrious list of past winners,” commented Dr Jozef Dobos, CEO of 3D Repo. “Winning the Digital Innovation Award is a credit to our dedicated team and our innovation designed to make the construction industry better for everyone.”

3D Repo, a spinout from University College London, is a developer of multi-award winning open source software for BIM in the cloud. Instead of architects, consultants and contractors sharing massive proprietary files in a costly and time consuming manner, they can simply point their web browser to an encrypted online repository in order to examine each project stage virtually, even on mobile devices. More than 40 different 3D file formats are decomposed and federated in the company’s big data repository. The 3D Repo team has collaborated on a number of large scale projects with companies such as ARUP, Balfour Beatty and British Telecom.
