FIG Working Week 2016 Preliminary Programme Released

FIG2016 is excited to share the preliminary technical programme for the 2016 conference! It is shaping up to be another great FIG experience and we hope you can come to Christchurch, New Zealand from 2-6 May to join in the fun. The conference is an exciting week-long conference that brings the international community of surveying and spatial professionals together to share innovative science with policymakers and stakeholders. Scientists, policy- and decision- makers, students, and stakeholders are invited to join the discussions on issues affecting the international surveying and spatial community today and in the future.

One of the important and unique features of FIG is its capability to cover the entire spectrum of the surveying profession reflected by the range of the FIG ten technical commissions. Each commission will have a stream during the conference, allowing you to navigate the week with ease and maximise your time at the conference. The key themes to be discussed each day are seen through the lens of the different streams, providing a unique angle and focus - be it technical, strategic or operational.

Unveiling the latest innovations and technological thinking, the peer-reviewed technical papers remain the cornerstone of each stream and the conference. We have received around 400 papers of which 60 papers have undergone the double-blinded peer-review process and graded on relevance, originality, breadth, completeness and clarity.

The programme will be underpinned by invited high-level presentations in three plenary sessions covering topics within the overall theme “Recovery from Disaster”. The nine powerful keynote speakers will set the stage on knowledge sharing and cover best practices, trends and case studies. Presenters include: Ms. Lianne Dalziel, Mayor of Christchurch; Mr. Duncan Gibb, Founding General Manager of SCIRT; Dr. Hiroshi Murakami, Deputy Director General; Mr. Gregory Scott, UN-GGIM; Mr. Keith Bell, World Bank; Mr. Bryn Fosburgh, Trimble Navigation; Prof. Pengfei Cheng, Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping; Mr. Sam Johnson, Student Volunteer Army.
