Focus M 70 Lidar Announced by FARO

FARO has announced their latest scanner to hit the competitive entry-level market, the Focus M70. Representatives say the scanner, which is set to cost less than $25,000, will provide an “ideal entry point for all professional users considering laser scanning in the construction BIM/CIM and public safety forensics markets.” The Focus M 70 weighs 4.2kg, and captures 500,000 points per second at an accuracy of +/- 3mm. Effortless 3D have announced the E3D MKI, an integrate lidar scanner and HDR imaging system. At a cost just under £6,000, the E3D is aimed to perform on-site progress monitoring and capture to surveyors who want to fill out their reality capture tool kit with a more portable option. Aberystwyth University Invests in UAV Lidar

The Earth Observation and Ecosystem Dynamics Group at Aberystwyth University has invested in a drone based Lidar and spectral imaging package in order to enhance their research across the globe. The bespoke unit, configured by COPTRZ, is expected to significantly enhance the university’s research into the monitoring of British forests, focusing primarily on the measurement of standing timber volumes, forest biomass and carbon content. Cepton Develops Cost-effective Vista Lidar

Cepton has announced development on a new low-power, long-range, high-resolution, and small-size Lidar sensor called Vista. The Lidar was announced at the 2018 NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference. Vista is intended to be a cost-effective solution for those who pursue all levels of autonomous driving, active safety, or mapping applications. Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) recently engaged 1Spatial, a leading company in managing geospatial data, to analyse and extract aerial laser scanning data. Maser Consulting to Offer UAS Lidar Services

Engineering design firm Maser Consulting has recently entered the UAS service market and plan to use UAS lidar data and integrate it with mobile and terrestrial lidar data to help support more types of projects, including survey within the power utility, oil & gas, environmental, emergency response, and asset management industries.
