YellowScan Unveils UAV Lidar System Surveyor Ultra

YellowScan has introduced their new lidar system, the Surveyor Ultra, which integrates the Velodyne VLP-32C scanner & the Applanix APX-15 IMU. Thanks to its high-density (600,000 shots per second), the system is ideally suited for high speed UAVs & long-range needs (100m). Its light weight (1.7kg) makes it easy to mount on any drone, including VTOLs. 3D at Depth Developing Subsea Lidar

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute is working with 3D at Depth to develop a lidar system capable of measuring the ocean floor at resolutions of one centimetre. Considering it covers most of Earth, it’s particularly frustrating that the ocean is also very difficult to map. Google Announces Lidar for Autonomous Cars

Waymo wants to do everything itself. The self-driving automobile division of Google’s parent company Alphabet, has announced that it is building all of its self-driving automobile hardware in-house. That means Waymo is manufacturing its own lidar. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Kaarta Launches Handheld Lidar Scanner Contour

At SPAR 3D, Kaarta was on hand for the launch of its newest handheld lidar scanner, the Contour. The device integrates a +/- 3 cm lidar sensor, IMU, camera, battery, and a touch screen into a small form factor to enable “decision-making at the point of work.” The device is built around the Kaarta engine, a mapping and localization algorithm that processes sensor data and displays the results in real-time on the touch screen. Velodyne Cuts VLP-16 Lidar Price

Velodyne Lidar is now offering the VLP-16 lidar Puck to customers around the world with reduction of up to 50% in price. This puts the price of the lidar sensor at around US $4,000 is the maximum reduction is offered. Velodyne CEO David Hall explained the move by saying that demand for the popular lidar sensor grew significantly in 2017, allowing the company to scale up production capacity at the megafactory it built last January. Airsight Australia Launches NextCore UAV Lidar System

Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) service provider Airsight Australia has announced NextCore, a UAV Lidar scanner and processing system that offers comparable performance at a considerably lower price point than rivals. The NextCore scanner is a 2.5kg UAV payload that can acquire 420,000 points per second with a 360-degree field of view and triple returns. FARO Focus S70 Lidar Hits 1mm Accuracy

FARO has introduced the latest entry to its line of Focus laser scanners, the Focus S70, a scanner spec’ed out for short range, high accuracy scanning in the AEC, product design, and forensics industries. The S70 is similar to the low-cost M70 scanner announced in January. It has a 70 metre range, an IP rating of 54 for use in adverse conditions, and HDR capture.
